At SPLC, we pride ourselves in providing services for older adults and seniors to promote their physical and mental health. For over 30 years, our Recreation and Health Promotion department has provided classes and trips, as well as workshops and education sessions.
As time evolves, so have the needs for seniors in our community. SPLC has proposed a new and innovative class for older adults and seniors called, “Senior Street Smarts On-The-Go”, that will provide self-defense skills training for seniors.
This program will be based at our Centre and on-the-go in the community with 2 components: physical and mental awareness.
Seniors Self Defense On-The-Go will be the first of its kind in the Scarborough community and will allow us to be accessible to many neighbourhoods and individuals who could benefit from this program.
With translators to make the process easier, an on-the-go component, and a trained instructor, we will use the train-the-trainer approach to train interested participants the skills they need to teach this class after completing a full 10-week session.
